Manchester City might be riding high in the Premier League ever since Pep Guardiola took charge of the club but winning the Champions League is the ultimate goal of the club.
City have been exceptional in England for a number of seasons now but that form hasn’t really trickled down into Europe.
And now things could possibly get even harder as some reports claim, Man City could receive a Champions League ban – as early as next season.
A couple of weeks ago, Football Leaks in association with German magazine Der Spiegel revealed how Man City had the flouted financial fair play (FFP) rules by using “sponsorship deals to circumvent rules on how much money owners can put into a club.”(as reported by the Guardian)
This article caused a fair bit of uproar amongst the footballing circuit even though Man City maintained a straight face in the whole debacle.
The defending Premier League champions released a statement saying: “We will not be providing any comment on out-of-context materials purportedly hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Manchester City personnel and associated people. The attempt to damage the club’s reputation is organised and clear.”
But now UEFA have made it clear that the case is a concrete one and the outcome of the whole investigation will be provided pretty soon.
Man City could receive a Champions League ban if indeed they are found guilty which is good news for the other top clubs in the Premier League.
The famed top four of the league have now been stretched and there are now six big clubs who fight it out to get into Europe.
This means that at the end of every season there are usually two big clubs who fail to make it amongst Europe’s elites.
But if Man City do eventually receive a Champions League ban then one more club might be added into the mix which we can safely assume will be the fifth team on the Premier League table at the end of May.
The fifth team usually play in the Europa League but if City were to be slapped with a ban then that Europa League spot will then hopefully go to the sixth place side.
So if City were to receive a ban then it will be a win-win situation for every other top club.
