Pep Guardiola’s Man City side kicked off the new season in style by beating West Ham United 5-0 at the London Stadium.

The Hammers despite making a pretty bold start to the game, went 1-0 down just before the half-hour mark and from that point onwards, it was all downhill for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

In the second half, Man City shifted gears as Raheem Sterling scored a hattrick with Sergio Aguero chipping in with a late penalty.

And while almost every pundit and fan was happy with how Man City performed but Pep Guardiola like always was pretty critical about his team’s performance vs West Ham United.

“In terms of results, yes [I’m happy],” he said(as per the club’s official website). [In terms of performance] No.

“In the first half we were sloppy in the precision and accuracy of our passes. But that’s normal. I knew it, we talked about it.

“The rhythm was not there but that’s normal for the first game. In the second half, we were better, we were more calm, we played extra passes. After we went 3-0 up the game was over.

“But I cannot deny it, I’m delighted to win 5-0 away from home in the first game. We finished last season by winning 14 games in a row. It’s 15 now unbeaten so it’s good.”

Pep Guardiola might have hit the nail on the head since Man City were pretty slow coming off the blocks and West Ham United could have easily hurt them.

But given this was the first game of the season, most pundits were ready to overlook that but not the Spanish boss.

The Hammers, on the other hand, have once again made a poor start to a new campaign and that 5-0 drubbing now means that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are bottom of the Premier League table.

Man City though sit pretty on the top of the table followed by local rivals Man United who thumped 4-0 past Chelsea on Sunday.
