Man City have picked up from exactly where they left off last season and this weekend, they will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they face Newcastle United.

City are once again the favourites to win the Premier League so we are expecting nothing less than a win on Sunday. However, the Magpies have improved tremendously under Eddie Howe so it won’t be a surprise if they make life difficult for the Etihad outfit.

Man City have scored six goals in their first two matches but at the same time, Newcastle United are yet to concede a goal this season. There’s no doubt the home side will be playing an ultra-defensive game on Sunday so the onus will be on City to find the gaps and break down Newcastle’s defence.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won 27 of their last 33 away matches in the Premier League and even though the Magpies have a pretty decent home record, we see only one outcome from this tie.

Man City team news and injuries for the Newcastle United game:

Nathan Ake has been pairing up with Ruben Dias in central defence while John Stones is sat on the bench and at St James’ Park, we should be seeing this same selection policy from Pep.

Aymeric Laporte is recovering from surgery and he’s not expected to come back before the next month.

In midfield, Man City have signed Kalvin Phillips but the ex-Leeds man has played only a single minute so far. He missed the Bournemouth game with an injury but he should be back to full fitness by Sunday.

Phillips is obviously in the race to get a start but Guardiola is known to ease his players into the team so there’s very little chance that he is going to replace Rodri in the first XI.

Bernardo Silva continues to be linked with an exit and unless his issue is sorted, we don’t think he’s coming into the side. It will be Gundogan and De Bruyne who are going to play as the two advanced midfielders on Sunday.

Haaland has taken no time to settle down at the club so he will be leading the line but the Man City boss has a decision to make in terms of Jack Grealish.

Grealish came on right after half-time to replace Phil Foden, who’d already scored one and assisted one goal by then and it will be interesting to see if the manager sticks with Foden in his starting XI once again or does he bring back Jack Grealish.

Man City predicted line up vs Newcastle United:

Predicted Starting Line up(4-3-3): Ederson; Ake, Ruben Dias, Walker, Cancelo; Rodri/Phillips, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Erling Haaland, Mahrez, Foden/Grealish.
