UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League

Chelsea beat Real Madrid and Man City knocked out PSG in the Champions League semi-final meaning two English clubs are going to play in the final later this month.

And things could even better if both Manchester United and Arsenal were to make it to the Europa League final.

Going into the UCL semi-final, every other person had put their bets on PSG and Real Madrid to go through. PSG for having such world-class match winners and Real Madrid for their vast experience in this tournament. But the two English sides not only made it through the finale but they also did it with complete authority and dominance.

PSG and especially Real Madrid looked all over the place in both the legs and according to Jamie Carragher, the Champions League final is proof why clubs like Madrid and Barcelona were so eager to set up the European Super League.

Carragher said on CBS Sports, as quoted by Daily Star: “It’s an absolute nightmare, really! Listen, I’m delighted in a way because it shows where English football is right now.

“After tomorrow [the Europa League semi-finals, played tonight – May 6] we could have four English teams in the European finals.

“We go back to a big story in the last couple of weeks with the European Super League, I think it tells you why [Florentino] Perez and [Joan] Laporta at the two Spanish giants [Real Madrid and Barcelona] are desperate for a Super League because at this moment in time they can’t cope with the Premier League.

“It’s not just the quality of football, it’s the finances of the teams and the great managers.

“You look at Thomas Tuchel, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp… at the moment the Premier League is the place to be and it’s a sorry tale for the rest of Europe because they seem a fair bit away.

“Chelsea didn’t just beat Real Madrid, they battered them over two games, it should have been four of five really.”

The Super League, under the table, has always been about the money and the two semi-finals have proved that big clubs like Real Madrid just cannot cope up with their English counterparts on the pitch as well as in the transfer market.

A few years ago, the superstar players mostly preferred a move to Spain but now the tables have turned as the Premier League happens to be a top priority for all the big talents in Europe.

Both Man City and Chelsea were a class apart this week in the second leg and just like many EPL clubs are doing right now, the likes of Madrid and Barcelona also need a complete overhaul.
