Manchester City’s wonderkid Patrick Roberts is on the verge of completing a loan deal to Celtic. The 20-year-old who has already spent the last 18 months at Celtic is set to join the Bhoys for another season.

He enjoyed a successful stint at Celtic Park as he helped his side win the domestic treble. The side under the managerial leadership of Brendan Rogers went on to win the league title without losing a single game.

Roberts is said to have rejected interest from Nice as well as Southampton in order to move back to Glasgow.

The nine-cap England Under-20 international joined Manchester City from Fulham back in 2015 – after the youngster had made just 19 league appearances for the Londoners.

After just a single league appearance for City, he was shipped off on loan to Celtic on an 18-month deal in the January of 2016.

During his season-and-a-half in the Scottish city, Roberts helped the side to two Scottish Premierships, one Scottish Cup and a League Cup.

The English star thrived north of the border, turning out 32 times in the league last season, scoring nine times.

All in all, Roberts has played 60 times for the Hoops, scoring 17 times.

It’s, therefore, no surprise the 2014 European Under-17 Championship winner opted to head back to Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers’ assistant at the club, Chris Davies, even said: “There is a home for Patrick here, but ultimately he belongs to another club.

“It will be a collective decision by the player and the club as to where it’s best for him to go, or whether he stays there.

“All I know is Patrick did really well for us.”

Celtic now appear to have got their wish, as Roberts will return for at least another season.

It remains to be seen if the exit of Patrick Roberts is followed by more departures at the Etihad Stadium as the deadline day approaches closer.

Brahim Diaz is another youngster who was on his way out but may have earned a chance to stay at City and work with the senior squad. As for 17-year-old Phil Foden, he seems to have won over Guardiola in the preseason and has been present on the City bench for each of the first three Premier League fixtures.

Eliaquim Mangala is another big money signing who failed it to make it big in Manchester and could depart in favour of a move to Inter Milan. Jason Denayer and Wilfried Bony are almost certain to leave as they have been told by Pep they are surplus to requirements. Fabian Delph, on the other hand, wants to stay back and fight for his place at the club.
