Man United take on Young Boys in the Champions League this week and on Tuesday several first-team players have returned to training.

United have already secured qualification to the knockout stages of the tournament which means Ralf Rangnick is going to ring in some changes to the starting line up which featured against Palace on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Edinson Cavani, Raphael Varane, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw were all seen training with the squad which is a great boost for Man United just before the busy Christmas schedule kicks in.

Cavani has been out with a tendon discomfort while Varane has been recovering from a hamstring injury and both these players have been on the sidelines for a lengthy period.

The manager though has made it clear that not all of them are ready and available for selection this week but at least two of them could get starting roles vs Young Boys.

“They[Cavani & Varane] both cannot play tomorrow but they were part of the training session today. Edi even yesterday, Rapha it was the first time he was on the pitch with the team,” said Rangnick, as per the club’s official website.

“If everything goes well I expect them both back in full training next week so from Monday they will be participating in all training sessions.

“They’re both top players. Of course, we would be happy to have them on board as soon as possible but, especially with Rapha and his injury record in the past, we need to make sure that we will have him until the end of the season, so it is also about sustainability and not only getting him fit as soon as possible.

“It would be great to have both players available as soon as possible, but obviously for the rest of the season.”

While Varane and Cavani are not set to feature on Wednesday but the interim manager has hinted that Luke Shaw and Lingard are definitely in contention to get game time.

The boss added: “Everybody has the chance to perform and present themselves. I am happy to give game time to quite a few of them tomorrow.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know the players.”

If Shaw and Lingard are fully fit then they have a strong chance of being named in the starting line up and with Varane still a fortnight or so away from getting back, Eric Bailly is expected to come into the side.
