Man United have joined Premier League sides, Liverpool and Chelsea, in the race to sign 21-year-old defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The Independent claim: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now looking at RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate as Manchester United’s main centre-half target in the summer, as he seeks to take the team to the next level and challenge for the title.

“United could have a lot of competition from within England, though, as Konate is already generating the same level of interest as Upamecano did.

“Both Liverpool and Chelsea are seriously looking at the centre-half, too.”

Is Ibrahima Konate set to join a Premier League side?

Ibrahima Konate joined Leipzig in the summer of 2017 and the German side has had very high hopes from the 21-year-old defender.

But his time in the Bundesliga has been marred with constant injuries and during the 2020-21 season, he’s made just six appearances in the league so far.

Ibrahima Konate is only 21-years-old which is why we guess teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are willing to take a gamble with the centre-back.

Man United have reportedly fallen out of the race to sign Dayot Upamecano which is why the Red Devils have shown an interest in signing Ibrahima Konate during the summer.

It’s still unclear if RB Leipzig are willing to sell the France U21 international since he still has two years left on his current deal and on top of that, the German side are expected to lose Upamecano at the end of this season.

A transfer battle seems to be right around the corner for the signing of Ibrahima Konate but we think Man United will be able to sign him if they really push for it, especially since Liverpool and Chelsea are also eyeing other centre-backs.
