After being a terrific run of form, Man United finally slumped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Sheffield United in the EPL in midweek. And this defeat means the Red Devils have now slipped down to the second spot on the league table.

Apart from Harry Maguire(who scored the goal), every Man United man on the pitch was below par on Wednesday but according to pundit Rio Ferdinand, two players did absolutely nothing to help out their side.

“They didn’t have that zip about them. From minute one, really, there wasn’t that cut and thrust we’ve seen from United,” Ferdinand told BT Sport, as reported.

“Credit Sheffield United, Chris Wilder set them up very well, but United didn’t ask the questions. Bruno Fernandes, who they’ve relied on so heavily in recent weeks, months, didn’t get it going today. Paul Pogba the same.

“If anybody was starting to get carried away at Old Trafford, with the position that they’re on, it was a reality check. I think recently Man Utd, in terms of reaction, have been brilliant but tonight it seemed to come crumbling down.

“[Marcus] Rashford and [Anthony] Martial were invisible, didn’t get on the end of anything, didn’t create anything.

The former Man United man also went on to claim that Ole’s men will need to pull up their socks and prevent losing to the minnows of the Premier League if they wish to win their maiden EPL title in the post-Ferguson era.

He added: “Last week Liverpool, tremendous performance. Bottom of the league Sheffield United. Dour, lifeless at times. The inconsistencies they don’t win you the league.

“It’s what we said about Man United for many, many months that the inconsistencies of individuals on this team is what’s holding them back.

“And we thought we had seen the back of that but it’s just reared it’s head and that’s the unfortunate thing.”

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood all failed to create a single chance against Sheffield United but apart from these players, Solskjaer does not have too many reserves to bank upon right now.

Apart from Edinson Cavani, Man United did not have any other world-class forward on the bench on Wednesday and it seems like the failure to replace Romelu Lukaku could cost the OT outfit a genuine shot at the Premier League title.
