Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been devoid of game time during the 2020-21 season and it seems like he’s finally starting to question his future at Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, the summer signing held a meeting with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before their recent league victory over Fulham.

The report claims: “The conversation is thought to have been short but positive and left Van de Beek, who signed a contract until the summer of 2025, under the impression that his game time will increase as the season goes on.

“It has been made clear to the Holland international that United have faith in him and there is no chance of a loan or permanent departure this month.

“He has not considered either of those options anyway.”

Man United paid around £34.1m for the Dutch international but so far this season all he’s done is warm the benches. He’s played only 249 minutes in the Premier League so far and even in the cup games, his appearances have been rare.

Donny van de Beek is an attacking midfielder and that role in the starting XI is currently taken up by Bruno Fernandes.

So the former Ajax man has no other option but to keep working hard in training and prove his worth to Solskjaer in the coming months. Or he should be ready to play out of position.

There had been some rumours that the 23-year-old might look to move out due to the lack of playing time but it looks like this recent chat with the manager seems to have calmed him down and he even got to start vs Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Against Jurgen Klopp’s side, Donny van de Beek did not showcase any major fireworks but his solid performance will surely have won plaudits from Solskjaer.

Also, Man United will be playing in the Europa League next month so we are sure the midfielder will get a lot more game time during the second half of the season.

And as far as dethroning Bruno Fernandes is concerned, that ain’t happening any time soon.
