Premier League side Man United are having second thoughts about signing Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez, as per Athletic’s David Ornstein (h/t Metro).

The 24-year-old had a very solid season with Ajax and was even voted the ‘Ajax Player of the Season’ but these accolades seem to be having no major impact on Man United’s pursuit of the 24-year-old.

He is also wanted by Arsenal so many people were hoping for an intense transfer battle but Ornstein is claiming that Man United are not ready to make any hasty decisions.

The think tank at Manchester United have concerns over his physicality and they are fearing that Martinez might not be ready to match up to the intensity levels of the Premier League.

Will Man United give up the chase for Lisandro Martinez?

Man United paid a hell lot of money to sign Harry Maguire a few seasons ago but the defender has been a massive disappointment so the last thing they want is to repeat that mistake.

Also, the 24-year-old Argentine is not the only defender that United are looking at because they have also been linked with players like Pau Torres and Jurrien Timber.

Last season, Martinez started only 23 league games for Ajax and even for Argentina, he is the third-choice centre-back behind Christian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi.

While he has impressed whenever he’s been given the chance but Man United are very right in being extra cautious in the transfer market. They have wasted absurd amounts of money in previous years due to their lack of homework but now under Richard Arnold, things are certainly changing.

Will Arsenal be able to sign the Ajax centre-back?

Mikel Arteta already has several centre-backs in his squad but he is still chasing Lisandro Martinez because the defender can play as a left-back as well.

The Arsenal boss reportedly wants to sign the Ajax man as a backup to Kieran Tierney but if they really want to sign him then Edu will have to shell out a fair chunk of money.

Ajax have recently rejected a €30m bid from Man United meaning the Gunners will have to offer more than this amount if they want to stand any chance of signing Lisandro Martinez.
