Man United’s transfer strategy could keep them trophyless next season as well: Still time to rectify it?

Ole Solskjaer Man United

Man United have made two marquee signings this summer[Jadon Sancho and Varane] but according to ESPN, the club might not see the arrival of any other major superstar in the next few weeks.

Rob Dawson writes: “There is still interest in Kieran Trippier, but Atletico Madrid have so far given no indication they are willing to drop their £43m asking price.

“Meanwhile, plans are already in place to invest heavily in a striker ahead of the 2022-23 campaign with the hope that both Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are still on the market.

“Sources have told ESPN there is a strong possibility Sancho and Varane will be the only major signings of the summer.

“That, though, will be enough to crank up the optimism around Old Trafford that this squad is capable of winning United a first league title since 2013. New signings will bring fresh hope, but also renewed pressure on Solskjaer. He can only hope his team can meet the expectations spawned by a successful summer.”

Man United not to sign any other big-name players?

Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane are two very necessary signings but if Manchester United give up right now then there’s a big chance they will not be able to catch up with Manchester City.

Man United still need to patch up a few other problematic areas – particularly the defensive midfield area since the pairing of Fred and McTominay will not help them win the Premier League.

If Trippier is not coming in then we do not think Ole will let Diogo Dalot leave the club this summer since the manager does not have an experienced backup to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Man United continue to be linked with players like Ruben Neves and Camavinga and we have a feeling the management will try and squeeze in one more big-money signing before deadline day arrives.

The Old Trafford outfit might have finished second on the Premier League table last season but their difference with Manchester City remain huge. And not to forget they had a really woeful Champions League campaign last season, something which they need to rectify this time around.

And for all this to happen, Solskjaer will not only need world-class players in each and every department of the pitch but he will also have to add depth to his first-team squad.
