Atletico Madrid vs Man United is going to be the highlight of the Champions League Round of 16 games this week and both sides go into this game in a rather wobbly form.

Man United have been dropping unnecessary points in the Premier League for some time and they have been knocked out of the FA Cup by a Championship side. Atletico Madrid are also having some problems of their own as they have lost two out of their previous five outings.

The Atletico Madrid vs Man United game should be pretty evenly matched but we think the Red Devils go into this game as the slightly better team since they are currently unbeaten in eight away matches. Also, Manchester United have an almost fully fit squad so their manager had the chance to rest some of his pivotal players during the weekend.

Rangnick’s side are out of the FA Cup and they also have no chance of chasing down Manchester City for the Premier League title so the Champions League has suddenly become really important for them. If United can finish in the top four of the PL and then reach even the semi-finals of the UCL then it would be considered as a successful season for them.

The first leg of the tie should also be a bit more interesting to watch since the away goals rule does not exist anymore so Rangnick can ask his side to be a bit more adventurous.

Man United team news vs Atletico Madrid:

Varane was not given a start against Leeds United but the ex-Real Madrid man will come back into central defence for the Atletico Madrid vs Man United tie.

Dalot will replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the right-hand side and Alex Telles will be pushing Luke Shaw for the left-back’s role. It will be interesting to see who the manager chooses on Wednesday.

Paul Pogba had a muted outing on Sunday and Fred was really influential once he came on in the second half but we don’t think Ralf will take the risk of keeping a player like Pogba on the bench against a team like Atletico Madrid.

Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay hold onto their places from Sunday’s 4-2 win.

Edinson Cavani is the only major absentee for the Atletico Madrid vs Man United tie so Ronaldo will be leading the line while Jadon Sanco will hold onto the left winger’s role.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga will be fighting for a position in the starting line and even though Rashford has been out of form we think his experience will help him move up the pecking order on Wednesday.

Man United predicted line up vs Atletico Madrid:

Predicted Starting Line up(4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot; Shaw/Telles, Maguire, Raphael Varane; Pogba, McTominay, Bruno Fernandes; Rashford/Elanga, Jadon Sancho, Ronaldo.
