Man United started the season with a win but in matchweek two, they slumped to a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Brighton. Now, things could go from back to worse because, on Sunday, United will welcome Liverpool in the Premier League.
All the positivity from the opening day of the season was quickly washed away last weekend and if Ten Hag does not get things right quickly then Manchester United will have to play catchup once again.
Overall, Man United had a dismal 23/24 season but thankfully, they drew both their league games vs Liverpool. Also, they knocked the Anfield outfit from the FA Cup courtesy of a 4-3 win in the quarter-final. On paper, Sunday’s game will be an even contest and since MUFC are playing at home, they have to put up a proper contest by any means possible. The fans will undoubtedly want their team to win, but even if Manchester United were to lose after putting up a strong fight, the Old Trafford crowd wouldn’t be too disheartened.
Manchester United’s team news and injuries:
Rasmus Hojlund, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Malacia and Lindelof are all out injured and neither of them will be available for Sunday’s match. Now, in a fresh blow, Mason Mount’s name has been added to that list after the midfielder picked up a muscle injury.
Mount is going to be on the sidelines for the next few weeks and this will mean that Erik ten Hag will have to bring back Bruno Fernandes into the No. 10 role on Sunday.
Shaw’s absence means Diogo Dalot will continue at left-back with summer signing Mazraoui playing on the right-hand side. Manchester United have signed Manuel Ugarte and the midfielder should be available to start against Liverpool. However, we think the Man United manager will stick with the partnership of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo while Ugarte starts on the bench.
Marcus Rashford has gotten the nod ahead of Garnacho for the first two matchweeks but his performances so far have been really underwhelming. Against Liverpool, Ten Hag will probably take the tough call to drop Rashford to the bench and bring in the Argentine international down the left flank.
Amad has made a very confident start to this season and he is going to hold onto his place.
In the first two matches, the Man United manager was using both Fernandes and Mason Mount in his starting lineup however, now that the latter has picked up an injury, summer signing Joshua Zirkzee will come into the side in his first start for the Red Devils.
Man United predicted line up vs Liverpool:
Predicted Starting lineup(4-2-3-1): Onana; Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Mazraoui, Dalot; Mainoo, Casemiro; Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho, Amad; Zirkzee.
