Mason Greenwood - Man United

Man United travel across town to take on Manchester City in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg with the odds of winning heavily stacked against Solskjaer’s men.

The Red Devils are currently trailing the two-legged tie 3-1 and with the number of injuries which they currently have, it will be an uphill task for Ole’s men to pull off a comeback and make their way into the finals.

But having said that, Man United have performed quite decently against the big sides and with their fast-paced counter-attacking style of football, United can easily inflict damage on their city rivals.

While Manchester United will go into this match as the underdogs but if they can manage to pull atleast one goal back early on in the game, then surely there will be a few nerves dangling in the home dugout.

Man United team news vs Man City:

Sergio Romero has been the club keeper for Man United this season but in the first leg, the manager opted to use David De Gea who in all fairness has still kept the Red Devils in the tie.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Spaniard once again being named in the starting line-up on Wednesday.

Maguire and Lindelof both started in a three-man defence against Tranmere in the FA Cup on Sunday and some experts feel the manager could very well use the same formation when he takes his side to the Etihad in midweek.

While there’s still a possibility that Ole could opt for a 3-5-2 formation but we think the Norwegian will opt for a 4-2-3-1 system so that he can fully utilise the pace of the likes of Daniel James and Mason Greenwood.

If Man United use a conventional backline then Luke Shaw could make way for young Brandon Williams who has been terrific for United recently while Aaron Wan-Bissaka plays as the right full-back.

With McTominay and Paul Pogba out injured, Fred and Nemanja Matic will be the obvious choice in midfield for the Red Devils while Juan Mata is expected to replace Andreas Pereira in the attacking midfielder’s role.

Marcus Rashford has obviously been ruled out for the next couple of months with a stress fracture meaning Mason Greenwood should get a start on the left-flank while Daniel James operates from the right-hand side.

Anthony Martial will play up front and the Frenchman will need to step up in the absence of Rashford.
