Man United have sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a dismal few weeks and the club have announced that Michael Carrick is going to take charge for the time being.

This means Carrick along with the help of Mike Phelan is going to select the starting XI which will take the field for Man United against Villarreal in midweek.

United have seen a massive dip in form in recent weeks, losing four out of their previous five Premier League games and they are yet to secure a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. United are currently tied on points with Villarreal at the top of the table while Atalanta are just two points behind them.

We do not expect Michael Carrick to make wholesome changes to the first XI but he’s bound to bring in some tweaks to the side which Solskjaer had used against Watford. The caretaker boss also has to keep one eye on Man United’s next league game vs Chelsea.

Man United team news vs Villarreal:

Maguire picked up a red card on Saturday but that does not rule him out of the game vs Villarreal. But since he can’t play against Chelsea, Lindelof will be rested in midweek as Eric Bailly comes into the side.

Luke Shaw picked up a head injury during Saturday’s loss which means he will be replaced by Alex Telles on the left-hand side of defence.

Nemanja Matic was horrible in the 4-1 loss, losing the ball multiple times and he is expected to move back to the bench as Fred or McTominay starts in midfield.

Donny van de Beek scored the final goal of Ole’s tenure and on Sunday he clearly showed why he needs to be starting each and every game.

We expect Michael Carrick not to walk in the footsteps of Solskjaer and hand a start to Donny in central midfield.

Marcus Rashford was really poor during the weekend and there’s a big possibility that Martial or Jesse Lingard takes the pitch in his place. Ideally, Rashford has just come back from an injury so he’s still trying to find his feet but at this level no world-class manager is going to give him so many chances.

Edinson Cavani still remains a doubt with his tendon issue meaning Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line on Tuesday.

We are not yet sure if Michael Carrick will make any changes in the formation or not but since he’s in charge for only a few matches, we don’t think he will want to make too many sweeping changes.

Man United predicted line up vs Villarreal:

Predicted Starting Line(4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Bailly, Luke Shaw; Van de Beek, Fred/McTominay; Bruno Fernandes, Martial/Lingard, Jadon Sancho; Ronaldo.
