Man United held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the EPL last weekend but they will have a chance to knock Jurgen Klopp’s men out of the FA Cup when these two sides meet again, this time at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils go into this game at the back of a 2-1 win over Fulham in midweek and, on the other hand, Liverpool suffered their first home defeat in almost three years in the EPL as they were beaten 1-0 by Burnley.
Liverpool are undefeated in their last 6 matches against Man United in all competitions but have won only one of their last six matches and that came against a second string Aston Villa side
The momentum will undoubtedly be with Solskjaer’s men going into this FA Cup encounter but Klopp will be urging his players to get back their peak form and a win against Man United could be the perfect platform for a turnaround.
Man United team news vs Liverpool:
Dean Henderson has been the cup keeper for Man United for the 2020-21 season and he will replace David De Gea in goal on Sunday.
Eric Bailly played in central defence vs Fulham in midweek but will make way for Victor Lindelof as Ole looks to rest some of his key players.
Alex Telles is also expected to replace Luke Shaw at left-back but Aaron Wan-Bissaka will reprise his role at right-back since he does not have a proper back-up.
Scott McTominay could come back into the side alongside Fred but Pogba has been terrific in midfield and we doubt is Ole would want to push the Frenchman down the wing.
Fred should keep his place in central midfield but it won’t come as a surprise if the manager chooses to rest the Brazilian and use Matic instead.
Donny van de Beek will be itching for a start in the attacking midfielder’s role but with Man United desperate to win a trophy by the end of this season, we don’t think Solskjaer will take the gamble of putting Bruno Fernandes on the bench.
Anthony Martial should move to the bench as Marcus Rashford comes back into the starting XI, alongside Edison Cavani.
Juan Mata and Daniel James will also be pushing for a start during the weekend but with the likes of Robertson and Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side, Ole will not want to tinker with his line-up too much on Sunday.
Man United’s predicted line-up vs Liverpool:
Predicted XI: Dean Henderson; Lindelof, Maguire, Telles, Wan-Bissaka; Matic/Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes/Van de Beek; Cavani, Marcus Rashford.
