Football Leaks has been rocking the footballing world during the past couple of weeks as they make startling revelations every alternate day.

They have released documents about Man City’s financial handlings following which they made claims about the rebel European Super League.

Then came the turn for Chelsea and their breaching of FIFA’s transfer policies(after they had signed underaged players).

And now Premier League giants Manchester United have been dragged into the fiasco.

As per documents released by Football Leaks in association with Mediapart, Manchester United paid Monaco £3.5million through unfair means during the signing of Radamel Falcao.

Falcao joined the Red Devils on loan from Monaco during the Louis Van Gaal’s first season in charge and the fee for the said deal was set at €10 million.

But Manchester United had one condition.

The Premier League club wanted to pay €4 million only if they managed to finish in the top four of the league table at the end of the season.

While Monaco had no objection to such a payment but as per the LFP rules, performance bonuses cannot be included in a contract.

So what did Manchester United do?

They set up a ghost friendly with AS Monaco.

The Red Devils made two contracts – the first one being original payment of €6 million while the second one was the payment of €4 million which was disclosed as a fee for a friendly between both the clubs.

But the friendly had one condition – that it would only be played if Manchester United finished fourth that season.

United did finish fourth that season but the friendly was cancelled by Louis Van Gaal as his team needed to play in the European qualifiers to secure a place in the Champions League group stage.

The Premier League still had to pay the €4 million to AS Monaco due to a term on the contract which stated that the payment had to be made even if the friendly did not go ahead.
