Man United thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in their first Premier League game of the new season and immediately everyone believed that Solskjaer has managed to transform the squad.

During that game, the Man United players showed the hunger and ruthless streak which they had been lacking during the past few seasons and the result was for all to see.

But then the slump started and since then the Red Devils have managed two draws and one loss resulting in them sliding out of the top four of the league table.

The loss vs Palace and this weekend’s draw against the Saints are games which United should have actually won but unfortunately, they lacked the firepower upfront.

And this is exactly what Ole emphasised on this weekend.

“We’ve dominated the last three games and know we are on the right track, getting used to that way of playing,” Solskjaer said after Man United drew vs Southampton.

“In the last three games they haven’t given many points in return, but we’re getting better and better playing this way. It’s a young team that will get used to it.

“But today was a matter of we’ve just got the game where we wanted, we were winning 1-0, that’s when you can get that counter-attacking football, be more clinical, ruthless when we go forward.

“But it wasn’t to be, but we just gave them enough encouragement to stay in the game.

“I don’t know how many shots we’ve had today and in the last game against Palace but it’s a matter of taking the chances and that’s what football is all about, getting it inside the posts.

“But we’ll get there, we’re working on it.”

While the manager has made a bold and honest claim but we are failing to see where the goals will actually come from.

Ole has made it clear that the trio of Rashford, Martial and Greenwood will lead the line this season and frankly, these people are yet to prove themselves as out and out goal-getters.

So either these players will have to prove all there haters wrong or players like Paul Pogba and Daniel James will have to fill up that void.
