Man United and Liverpool were set to play each other at Old Trafford on Sunday in the English Premier League but that game had to be postponed after massive fan protests.

A large contingent of Man United supporters had stormed the Old Trafford pitch and the vicinity of the Lowry Hotel(where the United team were staying) to protest against the Glazer family. So the authorities had no other choice but to postpone the match.

The official statement from the home side read: “Following discussion between the Police, The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest today. Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture.”

The rescheduling of this match is proving to be a massive nightmare for the authorities and now according to The Daily Mail, Man United could face severe punishments for this whole fiasco.

The report claims: “Manchester United could face a points deduction after fans forced the postponement of their Premier League fixture with Liverpool. Both the Premier League and Football Association are investigating following the mass protests around Old Trafford on Sunday.”

Here’s the rule K14 which could be used to slap a penalty as well as points deduction for Man United(as reported by The Daily Mail):

K.14. Each Home Club shall further procure that Players and Match Officials are provided with a safe and secure:

K.14.1. means of access to and egress from the Stadium prior to and after the League Match;

K.14.2. environment in which to play the League Match; and

K.14.3. means of access to and egress from the pitch prior to the kick-off of a League Match, at the beginning and end

Man United are currently second on the Premier League table with 67 points meaning they have more or less secured Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

But if the Old Trafford outfit are to be hit with a points deduction then things will surely get a lot interesting since the other to-four suitors are not very far away from then right now.
