Anthony Martial wanted by West Ham United Man United

Man United were held to a 1-1 draw by AC Milan at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday and forward Anthony Martial happens to be the latest player to get injured in this game.

Martial started the match up front but he could only play the first half as had to be replaced by Amad Diallo during the break. And speaking after the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that it was an injury and not a tactical switch that forced Anthony Martial out.

“No, it was an injury,” the manager told MUTV, as per the club’s official website.

“Unfortunately, he got a whack on his hip, quite early in the first half so Anthony couldn’t go on. So [it’s] another one [injury].”

This is a massive blow for the Man United boss since his side will face West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend and Ole is now set to be without three of his regular forwards.

Marcus Rashford is already out with an injury and the England international is not expected to be fit for selection against the Hammers. Edinson Cavani is the third forward who is recovering from an injury and he too will not be fully fit in time.

“Anthony got a whack on his hip so there’s another forward we need to scan and look at,” Ole said in his post-match press conference.

“I definitely hope Marcus is back for next Thursday in Milan. I’m not sure he’ll make Sunday but, fingers crossed, as we’ll need him. Edinson, I don’t think will be ready for Sunday, no.”

This is a massive selection headache for the manager since players like Paul Pogba and Juan Mata are also on the sidelines meaning someone like Amad Diallo is expected to get a start on Sunday.

Diallo scored United’s only goal on Thursday night and with Anthony Martial, Rashford and Cavani all out injured, the youngster is in pole position to operate down the right wing.
