Pundit predicts the outcome of the Man United vs Spurs game at Old Trafford: Which way will it swing?

Man United welcome Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday and this game could define how the Red Devils play in their next few encounters.

The home side go into this match at the back of a rather humiliating defeat at the hands of Manchester City but according to Michael Owen, United might be able to nick this one, primarily because of Spurs’ inconsistency.

The pundit wrote on BetVictor: “This is the start of a huge week for United, with the second leg against Atletico Madrid coming on Tuesday. The performance in the second half against City was nowhere near good enough, but there were some positives in the first. Jadon Sancho took his goal brilliantly and looks like he’s beginning to settle in this side.

“Spurs are such a hard side to predict under Conte. I didn’t see that 5-0 win over Everton coming, but some of Spurs’ play was superb, even if Everton did make it easy for them.

“The one massive positive of late though, is Harry Kane’s form. He’s been brilliant, both in terms of scoring and creating chances. Kane is such a complete striker and it’s great to see him get back to his best.

“Man United desperately need to win this. I can’t see much in this one, but I think United will edge it.”

Will Spurs slip up against Man United on Saturday?

Unlike Man United, Spurs head to Old Trafford at the back of a thumping 5-0 win vs Everton so they will definitely be the favourites to win.

But Owen has also made a valid point because the Lilywhites have suffered rather shocking losses to teams like Middlesbrough and Burnley in recent weeks so a win for Man United is definitely not off the table. In their previous five matches, Tottenham have won three and lost two.

For the home side to pick up a win, Rangnick will have to get his tactics spot on and also make sure that his defenders and defensive midfielders do not make silly errors.

The interim manager will probably need to make some harsh selection calls because there are a lot of players who don’t deserve to start after their poor performance last Sunday.

Conte though brilliantly kept Man City at bay in that 3-2 win in February but Man United are expected to play on the counter so this is going to be a totally different ballgame at Old Trafford. We expect this to be a closely fought contest but if the United players cannot deploy a plan to stop Kane and Son then the scoreline could be similar to that from last weekend.
