Neymar Jr playing for Brazil

On Monday, reports emerged of Manchester United wanting to sign PSG star Neymar but less than 24 hours and these rumours have been squashed.

PSG have had internal discussions on the possibility of selling Neymar at the end of this season and L’Equippe had claimed that Man United have already made official contact.

Fabrizio Romano has quickly come out to clear the air, stating that Manchester United are not in negotiations with PSG but at the same time, the transfer expert hasn’t completely ruled out Neymar’s move to Old Trafford.

“There have been reports in the last 24 hours that Neymar is in the centre of negotiations between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain,” Romano said(h/t Football Transfers).

“Manchester United are strongly denying this rumour. There are no current negotiations ongoing between United and PSG.

“This is the Man Utd position.

“But it should be understood that this is the position of the current Man Utd ownership, the Glazer family and board. We know that Man Utd are in the middle of a negotiation to sell the club.

“Neymar could be a target for a new owner of Man Utd. INEOS group and Skeikh Jassim’s Qatari group are still in the race to buy Man Utd. But the Glazer family has no plan with Neymar.

“PSG are internally discussing the possibility of selling Neymar. This is a concrete possibility. It could be a loan with option to buy. It could be a permanent transfer.

“But PSG are open to letting Neymar leave. With Man Utd there is nothing, though, with the current ownership.”

Will the new Man United owners need to sign someone like Neymar?

Will the new Man United owners need to sign someone like Neymar?

If the ownership of the club changes hands then surely the new owners will try and make some marquee signings to make a splash in the market.

A player like Neymar will be ideal because the Brazilian superstar has a huge global fanbase plus he is a very good player. He is itching to win the Champions League again and if he is paid well then the 31-year-old won’t mind moving to England for two or three seasons.

However, under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United have stopped making PR signings which is why we don’t think the manager will be eager to bring someone like Neymar on board. After the Fergie era, United had zero transfer strategy and they would just go out and sign random stars without even thinking if they would fit in or not. Thankfully, the former Ajax manager has put an end to that chaos.

He has Rashford and Garnacho at his disposal and ETH would much rather rely on these two left-wingers and in turn, ask the management to get him a world-class centre-forward.

Neymar to Manchester United will definitely be the talk of the town but it’s highly unlikely that even the new owners will be able to convince Ten Hag to sign the Brazilian international.
