Manchester United celebrated their end of season Player of the Year awards ceremony and Ander Herrera turned out to be the man of the hour.
Ander Herrera beat the likes of Antonio Valencia and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to pick up the prestigious award. According to the Manchester United website, there was cut-throat competition between Valencia and Herrera. As per the website the Spaniard and the Equadorian were separated by a mere 20 votes before the final hours of the voting. But eventually it was the midfielder who came out the winner.

But Valencia did receive an award though. He went home with the Players’ Player of the Season award. It is a highly coveted honour and it just adds to the tremendous season that he has had. He has been a total beast for Manchester United in the right back role. United coach Jose Mourinho even went of to claim at one point that Valencia was the best right back in the world.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan went home with the award for the best goal of the season. Mkhitaryan got the award for his somewhat improvised scorpion kick against Sunderland. A major absentee from the awards list was definitely goalkeeper David De Gea. De Gea has had a wonderful season at United. But unfortunately he did not win any award.

Having said that, this might very well have been his last awards ceremony for Manchester United. De Gea might be seen in Real Madrid colours next season. But Mourinho is confident that De Gea is happy at United and will stay. Only time will tell though.
