Man Utd transfer target signs a new deal with his current club

0
Man Utd’s long-term transfer target Antoine Griezmann has signed a one-year contract extension with Atletico Madrid.

This new deal will keep Griezmann at the club up until 2022. Man Utd and Jose Mourinho have long been wanting to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford. But now it looks as if the deal has fallen flat on its face.

This is mostly to do with the transfer ban that has been imposed on Atletico Madrid up until next year. Even though Diego Simeone’s side appealed against the ban but it was swiftly turned down. And no soon was the transfer embargo upheld, the hush-hush about the Griezmann transfer died down.

The contract extension will keep Griezmann with Atletico until 2022.

In the last month, various reports have stated that Griezmann has already packed his bags for Manchester. The Frenchman himself said on a talk show that his chances of joining United are rather high. But now the 26-year-old clearly feels that abandoning Atletico at such a torrid time will not be a wise decision.

The Frenchman has also apologised to the fans about all the misstatements that surrounded his transfer saga.

“Maybe I expressed myself badly or someone wanted to make news where there weren’t any, but since I came, I have given my all for my club, my teammates and my coaching staff, and I’m very happy to live one more season with all of you.”

The Atletico Board are also grateful towards Griezmann for sticking with the club. And fittingly they have rewarded him with a pay rise. United’s hopes of signing him have for the time being washed away. But we are confident that Mourinho will try and sign him once again in the next transfer window.
