Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have been chasing Nemanja Matic for quite some time now. And if reports are to believed then the red half of Manchester are leading a one man race to the finish line.

The Background:

Manchester United current defensive midfielder Micheal Carrick is 36 years old and he is not getting any younger. Even though the Englishman has signed a contract extension, the manager knows very well that it will be impossible for him to play week in and week out. So Mourinho was eager to bring in Nemanja Matic as a long term replacement for Carrick.

Initially, the deal seemed to be moving quite smoothly and Matic looked all set to reunite with his old boss. But as the days went by the transfer seemed to hit one road block after another. At first, the relationships between the two teams went kind of sour after United literally stole Chelsea’s prime summer target – Romelu Lukaku. After that incident, many reports suggested that Chelsea were unwilling to do business with United.

Then after all that was settling down Juventus came into the mix and suddenly became interested in signing the player. So this potentially gave Chelsea an upper hand in the deal and they started to up the price for the player. There were even reports that the Blues had increased the asking price for Matic in order to compensate themselves for a so-called ‘Lukaku tax‘.

The current scenario:

Now as per the latest report coming out of Italy, Juventus has backed out of the deal just because Nemanja Matic has a very high asking price.

So this invariably leaves only a single team at the transfer table and that is Manchester United. And the report claims that Matic’s move to Manchester United will just be a matter of time unless Chelsea decide to play spoilt sport again.
