Premier League side Arsenal still remain in the hunt to sign Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio, as per a report in Calciomercato.it.

AC Milan are said to be the frontrunners in signing the winger and it was being claimed that the Gunners could back out of this deal due to the player’s high wage demands.

Milan have held a series of talks with the player’s representative in the hopes of making an early signing but as per the latest update, the Gunners have no intentions of backing off.

Arsenal seemingly have no issues in meeting Asensio’s wage demands and this should make things really interested once the season comes to an end.

Can Arsenal leap over Milan and sign Marco Asensio?

Milan are still very much the favourites to sign the winger but if this report from Calciomercato is correct then Marco Asensio could very well move to the Premier League next season.

A player of Asensio’s quality can very easily get a starting role in the current Arsenal side and his current price tag(€25-30m) should not be a problem for the English side either.

But if the Gunners want to sign Marco Asensio in the summer then they have to secure a Champions League spot or else it will be impossible for them to get their hands on the 26-year-old.

Milan are the current league leaders in the Serie A so they have their European slot sorted and now the onus is on Arsenal to finish in the EPL top-four.

Real Madrid will be more than happy to see two teams fighting it out for Marco Asensio but since his contract expires in 2023, the Los Blancos won’t be able to quote too high a price for the Spanish international.
