Man United brought on Marcus Rashford to change the flow of the game vs Wolves in midweek but the England international only lasted on the pitch for about 16 minutes.

Marcus Rashford hit the deck immediately after a challenge with Docherty and the manager had no other option to take off the forward and replace him with Jesse Lingard.

And immediately after the match, there were concerns over the player’s fitness since Man United take on Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend and the absence of Rashford will surely be a huge blow for the Old Trafford outfit.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer admitted that he did not initially want to use him and that the extent of the injury will once be known in the next few days.

“I didn’t want to play him,” Solskjaer said. “I think he got a knock, a knee or something, in his back, but he’s been struggling for a little while.

“That’s why we’ve kept him away [from starting against Wolves], but we needed the win.

“He was involved in the goal, so that was a positive, but it backfired. He’ll be tested in the next few days – we have to see for Sunday. He’s a quick healer and he’ll play through some pain, definitely, if he’s capable and it’s not a bad, bad injury, but we’ve seen that he’s struggled lately.

“But that’s been more when he’s been tired. He wasn’t on long enough to be tired so it might be something that just happened there and then.

“He’s been absolutely top this season so we’ll do anything and everything we can to get him fit for Sunday. If he’s not, then we’ll play without him.”

At first glance, the injury looked really bad as Marcus Rashford could not even move properly and right now there are serious doubts as to whether he will be fit in time.

The England international has been the star performer for United this season but if he isn’t a 100 %, Solskjaer will have no other option but to use Mason Greenwood instead.

UPDATE ON MARCUS RASHFORD INJURY:

Some reports have claimed that Man United will not risk using their best player on Sunday but speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule the England international out.

The manager has claimed that there’s still time for Marcus Rashford to make a full recovery meaning he could very well feature for the Red Devils at Anfield.

“I can’t tell you now[about an update],” Ole said, during his pre-match press conference.

“As I said with Harry [Maguire] a few weeks ago, of course we’re going to give him the absolute amount of time to find out.

“We’re going to do some more checks and treatment with him today. Yesterday of course was just a recovery day anyway and some treatment for him.

“I haven’t seen him this morning, but I’m not going to hold my breath. I would probably think that he wouldn’t be ready, but let’s see. There’s still 48 hours, more than that, so let’s see.”
