Arsenal are inching closer to signing Martin Odegaard and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners could land the Norwegian playmaker before deadline day.

It looked like Real Madrid were not ready to sell Odegaard this summer but their manager has now changed his stance meaning Arsenal have a great chance at bringing back the No 10, this time on a permanent deal.

Romano said on his Youtube channel: “Martin Odegaard, midfielder of Real Madrid, he has chances to leave the club, and now Arsenal are negotiating with Real Madrid for Odegaard to understand if they can agree on the fee of the Norwegian midfielder to come back at Arsenal, but no longer on loan – [it would now] be a permanent deal.

“So Arsenal are now negotiating with Real Madrid for Martin Odegaard, who can become the new number 10 for Arsenal.

“They need new signings and they are working on Odegaard now as one of their priorities.

“So Martin Odegaard can leave Real Madrid to join Arsenal in the final two weeks of the transfer market.”

Will Real Madrid let Martin Odegaard leave?

A couple of weeks ago Real Madrid were adamant about holding onto Martin Odegaard but it’s now pretty clear that the Spaniards are willing to let him go.

Madrid want somewhere around £40 million for a permanent sale and this is where the problem lies for Arsenal.

The Gunners have already spent £50 million on Ben White this summer so they cannot afford to pay so much for Martin Odegaard right now.

But since Martin Odegaard has only two more years left on his current deal, we don’t think Real Madrid can play hardball for too long so there’s a big chance that something positive will come out of these negotiations really quickly.

A few rumours had suggested that Odegaard wants to rejoin Arsenal by the end of this week and if the Gunners can agree on a price then this deadline is perfectly possible.
