Midfielder Martin Odegaard was set to rejoin Real Madrid this summer but the Norwegian’s future has once again been put up in the air thanks to Ancelotti’s return to the Bernabeu.

Everton were left shocked and stunned as Carlo Ancelotti chose to leave them at the drop of a hat and return to Madrid. And most experts think, this move will spell the end of Martin Odegaard at the club.

The Italian was never fond of the playmaker and he had famously said during his first stint that the signing of the youngster was nothing but a PR stunt from Florentino Perez.

He said at the time: “When Florentino buys a Norwegian footballer, you simply have to accept it. He could be the best player in the world, but I don’t care because he was not a player who I asked for.

“That signing was to do with PR.”

Will Martin Odegaard return to Arsenal?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has time and again made it clear that he wants to sign the Norwegian international on a permanent basis but it will be up to Real Madrid if they want to offload him or not.

He said, as quoted: “We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we’d like to do.

“He’s not our player, we will have discussions in the next few weeks. We respect he’s a Real Madrid player and will have those communications.

“We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done, and he’s adapted really well to our way of playing and our football club. Hopefully, we have given him the hope and the feeling that this could be a good place for him here.

“I don’t know[if he will stay], it’s not in our hands.”

With Zidane at the helm, Odegaard still had a chance to play for Real Madrid next season but now with Carlo Ancelotti returning to the club, there’s no way the 22-year-old will feature in his plans.

This is great news for Mikel Arteta who has been really impressed by Martin Odegaard during his loan stint at the club and now Arsenal should not have issues in bringing him on board.

The Sun‘s Mark Irwin has claimed that the playmaker has made his intentions clear writing: ‘Odegaard has made it clear that he would like to remain at Arsenal’.
