Arsenal have long been linked with midfielder Martin Zubimendi and according to El Nacional, the Gunners have made a fresh and interesting offer to sign him.

The Real Sociedad midfielder has been linked with a Premier League move for over a year, with Liverpool as the frontrunners to bring him on board. However, Liverpool have now taken the back seat, making Arsenal the leading contenders for the 25-year-old.

Martin Zubimendi has a £51 million release clause in his contract and Arsenal have just made a cash-plus-player offer wherein they are willing to pay £25 million along with defenders Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Will this offer be enough to sign Martin Zubimendi?

Thomas Partey and Jorginho will be allowed to leave next summer and in such a scenario, Mikel Arteta will need a new central midfielder in his squad. They have signed Mikel Merino in the summer so bringing in one new CM will be enough to restock the midfield department.

Last year, the midfielder rejected a move to Liverpool because he wanted to remain at Real Sociedad but his stance has changed and the Spaniard is now ready to join the Premier League.

Major reports suggest that Zubimendi has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and now, the only thing that remains is to agree on a transfer fee with Sociedad.

Thankfully, Sociedad are ready to cash in on their star player and currently, the two teams are in advanced talks. Arsenal are confident of completing the transfer before the January window shuts down.

If we consider Kiwior and Tomiyasu’s current market values then the Gunners are offering a total of around £75 million and that’s much more than Zubimendi’s £51 million release clause. This offer seems good enough for Real Sociedad to accept and green-light the midfielder’s move to England.

Last summer, Liverpool were really close to signing Martin Zubimendi but the Anfield outfit are no longer keen to challenge Arsenal. And according to a report in TeamTalk Liverpool are now considering alternative options including Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller.
