According to an exclusive report in the Telegraph, Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Mount’s exit rumours have been doing the rounds for several months and it looks like the England international has no intention of signing a new contract with his boyhood club.

He will be a free agent in 2024 but the Blues are trying to make him agree to a new deal. Experts had been of the view that Mason Mount is yet to make up his mind but by agreeing on personal terms with Manchester United, it’s very evident that he wants a new challenge next season.

Will Manchester United be able to land him?

Agreement of personal terms is obviously the first step towards a move because now Manchester United will have to do the hard bit and go and negotiate with Chelsea.

Despite having just one year left, Chelsea want a sizeable transfer fee for Mason Mount but at the same time, they do not want to lose him as a free agent.

He’s not been in great form this season but the 24-year-old is still one of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League so the Blues will have to think long and hard before allowing him to join a direct league rival.

Boehly’s side will do all they can to convince Mason Mount to remain at Stamford Bridge and sign a new contract but he has his heart set on a move to Man United and if Ten Hag’s side can make the right offer then Chelsea will have to let him leave.

Is Mason Mount of any use to Erik ten Hag?

Mason Mount works best when playing in the No 10 role but the Man United manager is probably looking at him more as a No 8.

If he joins Man United, the midfielder will be a direct replacement for Christian Eriksen, a player who is devoid of pace. Casemiro has also lost his pace so against fast counter-attacking teams, United’s central midfielders have been massively ineffective this season

Mount has not been a hit while playing in a central role and with the way Bruno Fernandes is playing, there’s no way he is going to replace the Portuguese in the No 10. Maybe, Ten Hag wants to use the Chelsea man as the energetic midfielder alongside Casemiro or if Man United can sign someone like Declan Rice then Mount and Fernandes will play in more advanced roles ahead of a singular defensive midfielder.
