Liverpool are really keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount but former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has warned the Reds against making this move.
Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in midfield reinforcements for the upcoming season and with his contract expiring next summer, Mount has turned out to be the ideal target for the Liverpool manager.
Mason Mount is not willing to sign a new deal and if Chelsea fail to convince him then the Blues will cash in on him in the summer rather than risk losing him as a free agent.
Agbonlahor believes Mount is not good enough to play for a Jurgen Klopp-led Liverpool side which is why they should focus on their other targets.
He said(h/t talkSPORT):“He scored 27 goals in 129 appearances, it’s not fantastic is it, let’s be honest. The stats how that he’s not [a great player]. He’s an okay player but he’s not doing outstanding.
“Mason Mount is an attacking midfielder, he should be scoring goals. He brings nothing. Odegaard’s got 14 goals in one season.”
Mount has scored and assisted only five goals in 24 Premier League games this season and the midfielder has massively fallen down the pecking order. However, he’s a technically gifted player which is why he can be a massive success under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp.
This season, Chelsea have been a complete mess so we can’t judge any of their players’ performances fairly but Mason Mount has an abundance of talent and at the hands of the right manager, he can come back to the top in no time.
Klopp has his eyes on Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and many think if Liverpool can get their hands on him then they won’t make a move for Mount but according to football.london, Mason Mount is very much on Liverpool’s radar despite them wanting Mac Allister.
It won’t be a shock if the Anfield outfit are targeting both Alexis Mac Allister and Mount because the likes of Naby Keita and Thiago have not been up to the mark this campaign and it makes perfect sense that Klopp wants more than one reinforcement.
