Manchester United are expected to spend heavily in the transfer market this summer and most of the money might be spent in bringing in Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax.

Matthijs De Ligt has come up through the ranks at the Dutch club and at only 19 years of age, the youngster is already being considered as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

De Ligt led Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League this season and the player’s leadership qualities have been lauded by many pundits with many believing that he could be the next captain for Man United.

Reports have suggested that Man United and Barcelona are currently the frontrunners to sign the youngster but now it looks like Matthijs De Ligt is not too keen to join the Old Trafford outfit.

Manchester United have failed to qualify for the Champions League next season which is the main reason why Matthijs De Ligt is not too keen to join the Red Devils during the summer transfer window.

The defender had a fine run in the UCL this past season and right now he is not too keen to drop down a level.

This would mean that Barcelona are in pole position to sign him having already roped in Frenkie de Jong but the Mirror claims that a number of other clubs are also interested in the 19-year-old.

As per the report, clubs like Liverpool, PSG and Juventus are also keen on signing Matthijs De Ligt and it will be the player’s agent who gets to decide which club he eventually joins.

De Ligt is currently managed by Mino Raiola who is often termed as an agent who is more concerned about his commission when a player transfer happens.

So clearly, the club which is willing to pay more money to Raiola might eventually get their hands on Matthijs De Ligt during the summer transfer window.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer surely has the money to spend but now the Norwegian has to convince the defender that joining the Red Devils will eventually bring glory to the club and also to him.
