Chelsea want Matthijs de Ligt

Premier League side Chelsea seem to have shifted their focus to Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt after struggling to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Kounde was supposed to be a pretty straightforward signing but the Blues just cannot get this one over the line. And maybe this is why Tuchel wants his club to sign the 21-year-old Juve defender instead.

JuveFC cites Italian reports: “According to Calciomercatoweb via TuttoJuve, the Champions League winners are willing to launch a massive transfer bid for Matthijs de Ligt.

“The source claims that the offer will include 60 million euros in cash, plus the services of their striker, Timo Werner, who’s currently valued at around 45 millions.”

Will Chelsea be able to land Matthijs de Ligt?

Timo Werner has failed to show his talents in the English Premier League and now that Romelu Lukaku is set to arrive at the club, Tuchel has no use of the German international.

The forward will be a great counterweight for the Matthijs de Ligt deal but we will have to wait and see if Juventus are willing to let him leave or not.

The 21-year-old joined the Serie A side in 2019 and in these past two seasons, the Dutch international has cemented his place in the starting line-up for the Old Lady.

His deal with the club expires in 2024 so Juventus are in no hurry to offload him but then he is managed by Mino Raiola. So if Chelsea can convince his agent then they have every chance of signing him during the ongoing transfer window.

The Blues seem to have valued Matthijs de Ligt at around €100 million which is much more than his current market value of €75 million.

This will indeed be one tough move and if the London side are able to secure the signing of Jules Kounde then they will obviously pull back out from signing the former Ajax man.
