According to Mundo Deportivo, Premier League side Arsenal are still chasing Barcelona’s Memphis Depay.

Barcelona’s financial woes are an open secret so they will have to offload several first-team players in the coming months – or face sanctions, and the name of Memphis is on top of this ill-fated list.

The Dutch international has done moderately well at the Camp Nou, scoring 13 goals in 38 appearances for the club but he’s very much dispensable and Arsenal could be his next destination.

His contract with the club expires in 2023 which is why Barca are willing to affect a fee of around £35m for the 28-year-old and this price bracket suits Arsenal very well.

Is he a necessary target for Arsenal?

When he was at Manchester United, Memphis Depay was an out-and-out left winger but during his Lyon days, he’s transformed himself into a proper centre-forward.

Arsenal have cleared out almost all of their top centre-forwards so Memphis Depay can come and slot right into the starting lineup.

His time at United was a massive disappointment but at Lyon he was exceptional. He also managed to carry that same form into Barcelona so there’s no way we can call his 12 months at Camp Nou a failure.

The Gunners are in need of a top centre-forward and looking at his form in Barca and Lyon plus his goalscoring prowess for the national team, Depay can very easily be a success under Mikel Arteta.

Are Arsenal chasing Memphis Depay instead of Jesus?

Arsenal might be linked with Memphis Depay but we firmly believe Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus is still Arteta’s number one priority.

Jesus had been in top form for City last season, scoring eight and assisting eight goals and on any given day he will be a better signing than Memphis Depay.

The North London side are currently the favourites to sign the Man United wantaway man and as soon as Arsenal are confident that Jesus is joining them, they will swiftly drop their interest in Memphis Depay.
