Manchester United brought in Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven and he was supposed to be the next best thing in the Premier League.

But during his two-year stay at the club, the forward managed to become one of the biggest flops at Old Trafford and was eventually sold off to Lyon in 2017.

Man United surely lost a lot of money in this deal and this transfer seems to have left a lot of scars – on both Memphis Depay as well as the club.

In his recent book, the 25-year-old has talked about how he struggled to get a chance in the first XI – first under Van Gaal and then under Jose Mourinho.

“I didn’t reach the level that time I needed to succeed at United,” he wrote.

“But when Jose Mourinho took over, the situation was different. In the beginning, I felt confidence and I started to train at a higher level. At a certain moment, I was killing it on the training pitch. But nothing changed my situation.

“That made it harder to accept than the season before. Even players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba asked me how it was possible that I never got a chance.

“Mourinho told me he was very happy with my level of play at the training and with my attitude. And that my chances would come. But they never came.”

But at Lyon, Memphis Depay certainly redeemed himself and now it looks like the player is set to return back to the Premier League.

And as per reports, Liverpool are now the bookmakers’ favourites to sign the former Man United flop.

According to Birmingham Mail, “Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add to his squad in the coming weeks with Wolves also involved in the Europa League but Raul Jimenez’s permanent switch from Benfica is the only confirmed deal so far.

“Wolves are behind Liverpool in the betting concerning Depay’s future, with the Champions League winners odd-on on favourites with SkyBet to secure his signature.”

Wolves have also been heavily linked with a move for Memphis Depay but if Liverpool come calling then we doubt if the Dutchman will look any other ways.

Some experts have also claimed that Klopp could use Van Dijk – Depay’s international teammates in order to convince him to join the Anfield outfit.

Last season, Memphis Depay scored 10 goals and assisted another 10 while playing as a centre-forward and surely, he can be the perfect replacement for the underfiring Roberto Firmino.
