Mesut Ozil Germany Arsenal

Mesut Ozil is yet to feature for Arsenal during the current Premier League season but the German could be handed his first start of the campaign this Saturday.

The Gunners travel to Merseyside next weekend in order to take on Liverpool in the EPL and Mesut Ozil is likely to start the match.

The playmaker along with Sead Kolasinac missed the season opener vs Newcastle United due to a security threat to the players.

A couple of people were arrested in connection with the incident which is why the duo was not allowed to feature vs the Magpies.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said(as reported by Goal): “Two men have been charged under Section 4a of the Public Order Act following an incident in Camden on Thursday, 8 August.

“Ferhat Ercan, 27, of Highgate, and Salaman Ekinci, 27, of Tottenham, were charged on August 9 following the incident and are due to appear at Highbury Corner magistrates’ court on 6 September.”

“The welfare of our players and their families is always a top priority and we have taken this decision following discussion with the players and their representatives,” the club said in a statement before the season begun.

While Mesut Ozil was available for selection vs Burnley last weekend but he was not selected due to lack of match fitness.

But now that the playmaker has trained for a couple of weeks with the squad it looks like he is back in contention when the Gunners visit Merseyside.

It is still unclear whether Mesut Ozil will be selected in the first XI vs Liverpool but some pundits claim that the manager would want all the experience that he can gather which is why the German will most likely start.

But if Mesut Ozil does get a chance to start vs the Reds then it would mean that one of the forwards might have to start on the bench and will only be called upon during the second half.
