Should Frank Lampard start thinking of getting rid of this 26 Y/O Chelsea player?

Chelsea could not bring in new players last summer due to the transfer embargo meaning Tammy Abraham has been the club’s first-choice striker while Michy Batshuayi has been serving up as his back-up.

Abraham has used his chances to full effect so far but the same cannot be said about Michy Batshuayi who has played only 449 minutes of football across 18 games for the Blues.

While the striker has chipped in with some vital goals this season but according to Jamie Redknapp, Lampard should look to bring in a better back-up to Abraham in January now that the club can once again sign new players.

Redknapp said via Daily Mail: “As for Abraham, he needs better back-up.

“Michy Batshuayi has not quite cut it as a deputy, while Olivier Giroud is likely to leave in January so that he can get the game time he needs ahead of Euro 2020.

“Lampard may have already been planning to spend in January after their transfer ban was lifted but I wonder if their recent form forces his hand even more.

“I wonder if he will now look to bring in a bit of experience, some tried and tested reinforcements who can relieve the pressure on [Mason] Mount and Abraham.

“Those two have shown themselves as Chelsea’s saviours time and time again this season. Where would that club be now without those two? Not fourth, I can tell you that.”

Michy Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille for a fee of around €39 million but the striker has yet to cement a place in the first XI.

Last season he was sent out on loan to Valencia and then Crystal Palace but many believed his luck would change with Frank Lampard taking charge of the club.

Unfortunately though, that has not been the case since Tammy Abraham has gotten all the limelight in the first XI for Chelsea while the Belgian international has played only 107 minutes of football in the Premier League – finding the net once.
