Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence has caught the attention of a number of big clubs and as per a report in the ESPN, clubs like Wolves, Everton and Rangers FC have all registered interest in the right-back.

Djed Spence came up through the ranks at Fulham and in 2018 the right-back joined Boro’s U23 side. In 2019, he managed to break through into the senior side and this current season, Spence has made 38 appearances in the Championship.

With clubs like Everton and Wolves interested in signing him, some people think Rangers FC stand no chance in this transfer race but according to former England keeper Paul Robinson, the youngster might just be tempted to join the Gers thanks to Steven Gerrard.

Robinson told Football Insider: “Spence has done well this season

“It’s always great to have versatile players in your squad and Spence is certainly one of those. He’s a great age and has a lot of experience already for someone so young. I think he’d be a great signing for Rangers.

“I’m sure he’d be interested if offered the chance to work with Steven Gerrard. They’re building something special up there.”

Spence signed a new deal in February of last year so Middlesbrough are in no hurry to part ways with him. But with so many big clubs interested in signing him, this might be the best opportunity the 20-year-old will get to play in the top division.

Now, as per the latest updates, Everton are not too keen to pursue this anymore since they are focusing on Max Aarons so this is set to become a two-horse race between Wolves and Rangers FC.

Obviously, with Wolves, Djed Spence will get the chance to play in the English Premier League, something which every youngster dreams of. But if he wants regular playing time then he has to choose Rangers FC.

Last year, Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock had heaved great praise on the right-back and if the manager is right then we are sure Djed Spence will try and secure a move to the English top division rather than joining the Premiership.

Warnock had said: “He reminds me very much of Nathaniel Clyne who I had at Palace who was a really nice lad and had to learn how to look after himself.

“You look at one or two or the others now, Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool and Wan-Bissaka at Man United, they are all that type.

“He has got enormous ability and when you have that ability it’s criminal if you don’t get to the very top.”
