Rangers FC still need to bring in atleast two new signings before the new season kicks off if they are to keep pace with the reigning champions Celtic.

One of the two signings should be the acquisition of a new striker while the other should be a backup to the central defensive pairing of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson.

And it is in this second area that the Gers seem to be struggling very badly.

Up until now, we knew that the Light Blues had two major centre-backs in their radar – Milwall’s Jake Cooper and Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt.

Cooper was the first choice for Gerrard but the Dens had already rejected three bids for the 23-year-old which prompted the Ibrox outfit to move for Curtis Tilt.

Tilt was supposed to be the cheaper option for Rangers – costing somewhere in the region of £1 million.

But reports on Sunday had claimed that Steven Gerrard had dropped his interest in Tilt and will no longer be moving for the 26-year-old which prompted many to believe that the Gers will shift their focus back to Jake Cooper.

The last bid that Milwall had rejected for the defender was reportedly in the region of £3 million but now according to Sky Sports, the Championship side have just rejected a fourth bid for the centre-back.

This report comes immediately after Rangers had stopped pursuing Curtis Tilt and this is certainly not good news for Steven Gerrard.

While we cannot be sure why Den manager Neil Harris has rejected so many offers but some in Scotland feel that money has nothing to do with it.

Jake Cooper’s current deal with Milwall in 2020 meaning Milwall have no obligation to release the player just now.

It is also being reported that Harris thinks that Jake Cooper will play a crucial role for his club during the 2018-19 season and is not willing to part ways with the centre-back this season.

Now it will be interesting to see what’s the next step that Rangers take.

Will they go back with one more bid or should they just forget the thought of signing Jake Cooper and shift their focus solely to Curtis Tilt?
