Mohun Bagan fail to caplitalise on Bengaluru slip up

0

Mohun Bagan failed to capitalise on Bengaluru’s loss against East Bengal as they could only manage a draw against DSK Shivajians.

First Half: Lacklustre Bagan

Mohun Bagan and DSK split points at the end as Shivajians spot the Kolkata team from winning yet another away match. Both teams started the game in a scrappy manner and the first quarter of the match was mostly lost in settling down. Mohun Bagan looked lacklustre as Shivajians were easily the better side in the first half. Kim Song Yong’s shot in the 39th minute should have given the hosts a much-deserved lead only to be denied by the post. Bagan played particularly badly in the first half as both Katsumi and Norde did nothing much to impact the game.

Second Half: Bagan miss chances

In the second half also Bagan did nothing special until they brought in Prabir Das in the 75th minute. And he turned out to be the extra ingredient that Bagan needed to win the match. He put in some telling balls but somehow the front men could not manage to conjure up a goal from that fine service. Subhashis Bose hit the post in the 79th min of the match. And minutes later Katsumi Yusa should have put the mariners in front but he fired his shot straight at the goalkeeper. Who stood tall and blocked the effort.

Missed oppurtunity for Bagan?

Even though the game was quite exciting and had many talking points but Bagan will see it as a missed opportunity. Especially when they had a chance to go 5 points clear at the top of the league. Both East Bengal and Bengaluru will be very happy with this result as they know that Mohun Bagan have not gone too far. On the other hand, the draw takes DSK up to the six place in the league.

In their next match, Bagan play Bengaluru FC at home. And both teams know very well that whoever wins this match will get a huge advantage in winning the title
