Manchester United beat Newcastle United 3-2 at home on Saturday and this win might just have saved Jose Mourinho’s job at the club.

The manager was under huge pressure coming into the match and his team got off to the worst possible start – going 2-0 down within the first 10 minutes.

From there on it was an uphill task for the Red Devils but thanks to three goals in the second half, Jose Mourinho’s men saved the game.

United saw goals from Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez but the win was partly down to some great changes made by the manager.

Immediately after going down 2-0, Mourinho took off Eric Bailly, put McTominay in central defence and brought on Juan Mata.

And then in the second half, the boss took of McTominay and put Paul Pogba at centre-back – a move which has since been applauded by many pundits.

But now recent reports have claimed that it was not Jose Mourinho’s idea to put Pogba in defence.

In fact, the manager had a talk with the French midfielder during half-time about what he should do and it was Paul Pogba who suggested that he goes in defence so that the manager can bring in Marouane Fellaini.

This selfless act immensely benefited the team as Paul Pogba dictated the game in the second half and was involved in Man United’s final two goals.

Sending Paul Pogba into centre-back was an act of desperation from the manager but Jose will surely not try such an experiment when his team take on Chelsea after the international break.

Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho do not get along with each other but this strained relationship seems to have no effect in their professional relationship.

A truly sensational act of putting the club before individual egos.
