Man City will pull off a masterstroke if they can sell this unwanted player to Chelsea: Should Tuchel think twice?

Chelsea are moving closer to signing Nathan Ake from Manchester City but according to Paul Robinson, this one might not be a sensible transfer business.

Man City are ready to let Ake leave for the right fee and as per reports, Chelsea are willing to pay around £40m for the centre-back. Ex-England No 1 Robinson though believes Chelsea are not likely to land the defender.

Robinson told Football Insider: “It would be a great piece of business if Man City can get back the money they paid for him.

“They saw something in him but I think they massively overpaid. I would be surprised it City sell to Chelsea though, one of their rivals. Chelsea will be trying to win the Premier League next season.

“If you are looking at a top-class player, you wouldn’t sell. They obviously do not see selling to Chelsea as a threat. It says a lot about what they think about the player.

“Ake did well when he played last year but he is a bit-part player. He is not going to start regularly at centre-half. He is not going to fork the backbone of your defence every week.

“I was surprised when City signed him and I would be surprised if Chelsea signed him.”

Is signing Nathan Ake going to be a blunder for Chelsea?

Yes, Nathan Ake has mostly been a bench-warmer at Man City but Chelsea are very much serious about signing him this summer.

Also, by paying £40m for him, the Blues will help Manchester City recover most of the money they had originally paid for the defender. This might indeed look like a poor decision for Chelsea but Thomas Tuchel isn’t eyeing only Ake.

The Chelsea boss is also eager to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus along with Nathan Ake and since Tuchel uses a 3-4-2-1 system both of them will get to play next season.

Rudiger and Christensen have both left Chelsea this summer so the club needs to sign at least two central defenders and if they manage to get both De Ligt and Nathan Ake, it will be a great bit of business.

Chelsea might have fallen behind in the race to sign Jules Kounde but they have still not given up hopes of signing the Sevilla centre-back.

The Dutch international started only 10 Premier League games last season for Manchester City but he’s been pretty dependable every time he’s been called up. Ake will undoubtedly struggle to cope in a two-man central defence at Chelsea but playing besides De Light and Thiago Silva, Nathan Ake should be able to hold his nerves and become a consistent performer.
