RB Leipzig are currently second in the Bundesliga table. They have had a fairy tale season. A club that was founded just seven years back are now fighting Bayern Munich for the German title.

RB doesn’t stand for Red Bull, or does it?

But if you didn’t know then it is also the most hated club in the German League. Mainly because people in Germany believe that Leipzig is nothing but a cash cow of Red Bull. And they stand against everything against the morals and ethics of football. Having formed in 2009 Leipzig is owned by Red Bull chief Dietrich Mateschitz. And the way they have bypassed the rules is smart to some but unethical to many.

The first problem that the club faced was that they were forbidden from using including a sponsor in their official name. But the management came up with an ingenious plan to name the club RB Leipzig which is short for RasenBallsport Leipzig.

Making a mockery of the 50+1 rule:

The German FA demands that supporters should have the power while selecting the club’s board of members. But Leipzig did not want supporters interfering with their board. So they radically increased their annual membership fees. As of result of which the club has very limited members with voting rights.

Everyone is not happy with their rise:

The club has been met with a lot of protests while playing away matches especially in the city of Leipzig. Their promotion to the top tier was also met with protests which sometimes turned violent. They are so hated in the German circuit that many teams have signed a pact to not play any friendlies with Leipzig.

Are the following an already shown path?

Many people feel that Leipzig is nothing but a commercial club who have only one motive. And that is money making. But on the other hand, the club has found a lot of supporters as well. These people see no wrong in the ways of the club. And they say that the inflow of money will only help football. These people also say that Vfl Wolfsburg managed to win the league only due to the financial support of Volkswagen.

No matter what the outcome is but we hope that at the end of the day football is the real winner.
