Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba is set to leave the club by the end of the week after spending three seasons with the Magpies.

Mbemba joined Newcastle in July of 2015 from Anderlecht and till date, the defender has made 58 appearances – scoring just one goal.

During his first season, the 23-year-old played 35 games in all competitions for the Magpies but with each passing season, his role in the first team has diminished.

In the 2017-18 season, Mbemba managed to make only 9 appearances in the Premier League and now the defender is all set to move out for greener pastures.

The DR Congo international is all set to join FC Porto which in turn is a huge blow for Celtic FC manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Scottish outfit have been heavily linked with Mbemba all throughout the previous month and at one point everyone believed that if Chancel left Newcastle United then it will be to join Celtic.

But clearly, that has not happened.

Chancel will move to FC Porto by the end of this week and reports suggest that all the three parties are in advanced negotiations with the deal.

It is being believed that Anderlecht were interested in bringing back Chancel Mbemba but that proved to be impossible for reasons unknown as a result of which the defender will now be joining Porto.
