According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are no longer interested in signing Jesse Lingard during the upcoming transfer window.

Lingard’s career at Manchester United has been a major flop and the England international will finally be leaving in the summer as a free agent. Up until now, NUFC were said to be one of the frontrunners in signing the 29-year-old but it looks like the Magpies have decided to back off.

The Telegraph are asserting that Newcastle United have decided to back off because of his high wages as well as his demands of a signing-on fee.

How much is Jesse Lingard charging as salary?

Lingard reportedly wants around £150,000-a-week from his new side and to be very honest is a very steep amount for someone who’s played only 367 minutes of Premier League football this season.

But the catch is that he is going to be a free agent so he can definitely demands such high wages, no matter what his form has been. Free agents generally have higher salaries because the club doesn’t have to pay any transfer fee for his signature.

After their takeover, Newcastle United have worked really smartly in the transfer market and it’s clear that Eddie Howe is keen to sign a flashy player just for the sake of it.

Which club will Jesse Lingard join if not Newcastle United?

Despite Newcastle United backing out, Lingard’s options don’t get limited because several Italian clubs are still keen to sign him so there’s a major chance that the England international could be playing in the Serie A next season.

West Ham United had tried really hard to sign him last summer and the Hammers could reignite their interest in the coming months as well. We are not sure if David Moyes still wants him but his loan spell with West Ham was really successful so the manager will definitely have a soft corner for him.

Ideally, Jesse Lingard will want to stay in England, closer to Gareth Southgate’s radar but he has to join a side where he can get consistent game time meaning the 29-year-old should be ready to join whichever club that offers him this luxury.
