Erik ten Hag is under massive pressure after the loss to Tottenham and if reports are to be believed then Massimiliano Allegri could be the one to replace him.

Ten Hag was massively backed by the new owners during the summer transfer window but the team’s performances have not improved at all. Manchester United have picked up just 7 points from their first 6 matches and are currently 13th on the Premier League table.

Spurs carved open Man United at Old Trafford and after the 3-0 loss, there are reports that Erik ten Hag could be sacked. The manager might have the backing of the INEOS owners for the time being but it seems like the minority owners are making backup plans.

Is Massimiliano Allegri a good choice to be the next Man United manager?

Unlike the previous seasons, Erik ten Hag has gotten all the players he needed so there is no excuse to under perform. The next couple of games will be very crucial but if things do not drastically improve then Ten Hag will definitely be sacked.

Managers like Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have also been linked with United but at the moment, Massimiliano Allegri seems to be the most logical choice.

The report claims that Sir Alex Ferguson has referred Allegri’s name to the club’s management and the 57-year-old has the portfolio to prove his worth.

He is currently without a club having left Juventus at the end of the previous season and with the kind of players that Manchester United have, Allegri’s tactics can become the recipe for success.

His first stint with Juventus was from 2014 to 2019 and during these five years, the Old Lady were a juggernaut in Europe. Juve won five consecutive Serie A titles along with 5 consecutive Italian Cups during this period.

During these five years, Juventus were a force to reckon with, however, his time at the club from 2021 to 2024 was not as successful. In these three seasons, Juventus never managed to break into the top three, with their worst coming during the 2022-23 season where they finished 7th.

Based on recent form, Massimiliano Allegri might not be the ideal long-term replacement for Erik ten Hag but the Italian is a serial winner who knows how to handle big egos.

Also, Allegri is someone who is not rigid in terms of tactics because, during his time at Juventus, he has used every possible formation. He initially preferred a 3-5-2 system and then went on to rely on a 4-2-3-1 formation with a double pivot of Khedira and Miralem Pjanic. The 57-year-old is also famous for using tactics based on the players he has at his disposal which is why he’s also used simple 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 systems over the years.

Unlike most modern-day managers who prefer a high-pressing style of football, Massimiliano Allegri prefers an organised defence and disciplined low block.

Without a doubt, he is not the perfect choice to become the next Man United manager but in terms of trophy-winning ability and experience, Massimiliano Allegri is miles ahead of managers like Potter, Pochettino and Gareth Southgate.
