The fears of the Rangers FC fans have come true as Steven Gerrard has vacated his position at the club to take charge of Aston Villa. Naturally, the hunt for the next Rangers manager begins with immediate effect and once again the Gers will be hoping to bring in someone of great value.

Gerrard’s name had been doing the rounds for a few days and Villa finally made the official announcement on Thursday morning.

Now, with the ex-Liverpool midfielder moving back to England, we take a look at some of the names who are currently amongst the favourites to become the next Rangers manager.

Frank Lampard:

Lampard’s name was linked with Aston Villa as well and now that Gerrard has moved to Villa Park, the former Chelsea midfielder might become the next Rangers manager.

But Frank is currently in talks with Norwich City to succeed Daniel Farke and if those talks materialize then there’s no way he will be moving to Scotland.

Dean Smith:

Dean Smith was sacked by Aston Villa after a poor 21/22 season but he certainly has the potential to guide a team like Rangers FC to yet another league title.

He had some great work at Villa Park last season and even half of those methods should be enough to help the Gers defend the domestic title.

John Terry:

John Terry was the assistant to Dean Smith for three years before leaving the club in July. Since then, the ex-Chelsea man has been out of work and he could certainly be tempted to take charge at Rangers.

Sky Sports are claiming that Terry is open to new possibilities and if Rangers approach him then he could consider replacing Gerrard.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst:

The former Rangers star is currently the bookies favourite to replace Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

He is someone who the fans love and he also knows the club inside out. The 46-year-old has been out of management for some time because he’s giving time to his family but as per the latest buzz, he’s ready to return to the fold. And a job at Rangers might be the ideal way to make a comeback.

The ex-Arsenal man has played for some of the best teams in Europe and he’s also learned his managerial trades under Ronald Koeman so he as the perfect pedigree to become the next Rangers manager.
