Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup quarterfinal by a clinical Belgium and this is the second tournament in a row that the South American have had to bow out despite being the favourites to win the tournament.

Brazil started the match on the front foot against Belgium but a series of missed chances in front of goal meant that Neymar’s side failed to make the breakthrough for which they were ultimately made to pay for – thanks a Fernandinho own goal.

And as the Seleção tried to shift gears, they were hit with yet another blow – this time from a Kevin De Bruyne long ranger.

Brazil did manage to pull one goal back late on in the second half but that did not do anything to help their cause as they had to board the next flight back home.

And after the humiliating exit, Neymar one of the stars of the Brazilian side put out a heartfelt message to thanks as well as apologize to the fans.

Neymar wrote: “I can tell you that this is the saddest moment of my career.

“The pain is very big because we knew we could have gone far.

“We knew we had the opportunity to go further, to make history, but it was not to be this time.

“It’s difficult to find the strength to want to play football again, but I’m sure God will give me enough strength to face anything.

“I’ll never stop thanking God, even in defeat because I know that your way is much better than mine.

“I’m very happy to be part of this team, I am proud of everyone. Thy interrupted our dream but they did not remove it from our heads or our hearts.”

He also added an Instagram story in which he wrote: “Thank you to everyone who sent messages and cheered us.”
