According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United’s new boss wants to sign Chelsea’s dynamic midfielder N’Golo Kante during the summer.

Erik ten Hag is desperate to sort out the midfield woes at United in the next few months and it looks like the manager is scouting every option in the market.

At the start of this year, United were chasing Declan Rice but it looks like they have backed off from that race because Ten Hag thinks the England international is way too expensive. Since that decision, Man United have been linked with a host of midfielders, the latest one being N’Golo Kante.

Will N’Golo Kante be a good signing for Manchester United?

Kante is without a doubt one of the most industrious defensive midfielders in European football so he can solve a lot of the club’s problems in the middle of the pitch.

A player like N’Golo Kante will finally allow Manchester United to move away from the midfield double pivot that they have been playing this season and that, in turn, will allow Erik ten Hag to put in another attack-minded midfielder into the side.

Will Chelsea be ready to part ways with the Frenchman?

Chelsea have plenty of options in midfield so there’s a very practical chance that Thomas Tuchel will allow him to leave for the right transfer fee.

The Blues are also chasing Declan Rice and if they can get hold of the Hammers man then Tuchel won’t hesitate to let the Frenchman move out in the summer.

Should Man United try and sign Kante?

Erik ten Hag is planning a major overhaul this summer but we think it’s not the ideal decision to bring a 31-year-old midfielder into this plan.

Since Sir Alex left, Man United have made the blunder of signing multiple ageing players and then getting stuck with them for three or four seasons.

Kante might still be at the top of his game but he’s entered the final phase of his playing career and there’s every chance that he might see a dip in form next season itself.

A few years ago, he would have been the first name on the team sheet but he’s become a lot more injury-prone now and this campaign, he’s started only 19 Premier League games.

Manchester United will be much better off signing someone like Ruben Neves or Kalvin Phillips rather than putting their money on N’Golo Kante.
